Module 3: Prototyping, Testing & Experimentation
Physical Object
This prototyping method is a hands-on tool that entails the actual construction of your product or, in the case of a process or service, the physical reproduction of some parts of it. This process allows ideas or concepts to take a tangible form, making it easier for the final user to interact with the product during the testing phase. Through interaction with the prototype, the user can provide more precise feedback on the idea, or his behavior reveals new insights.
In most cases, the Physical Object should represent your solution's critical function or concept and test what could make or break your idea. But Physical Objects can also be used in A/B testing, as a prompt in user interviews to reveal needs, or to communicate ideas within your team.
Benefits:
- Creates iterative steps in the building process
- Promotes playfulness
- Encourages interaction with the customers
- Makes abstract ideas concrete
Materials Needed:
various 2D/3D prototyping material such as: LEGOs, Play-Doh, cardboad/paper, tape/glue, scissors
