Module 3: Prototyping, Testing & Experimentation
Physical Prototypes
When prototyping a physical product, consider the following methods useful:
Physical object
A direct physical representation of the actual product, usually in the same size/shape but built with low-cost materials like paper or wood.
Mock-up
A cardboard/paper-based version of your app or website allows for quick and low-cost testing of the application's core elements and functions.
Sketches
A great way to make abstract ideas concrete, structure ideation, and promote shared understanding.
Tip: Think of the critical function and core element. It aims at testing what makes or breaks your idea, not only desirability but also the core technical aspects. In the case of a process or service, this means that you solely prototype the key parts.
Benefits:
- Encourages interaction with the customers
- Makes abstract ideas concrete
- Promotes playfulness
